Influencer Marketing: Money Talks! (One Question Blitz)
We are in a time where we make relationships online, get to know our presenter but dont quite know what is happening in the background. While all sides seem justified its important for us to understand whats actually happening so that we do not get led to believe things that may not be 100% as they seem.
00:00 Hey guys it’s Robert!
00:44 £25,000 gate!
01:47 Was this truly a cold call?
03:01 My thoughts…
04:58 Bring back traditional ads!
06:58 Building a Manthey Yaris…
09:52 Simply unbiased opinions…
14:30 Why I like Patreon, but probably personally wouldn't have one…
16:00 Free, Unbiased, Content!
17:05 Upping the production value vs keeping it real…
20:50 That wasn’t very cool!
23:12 Shout out to Hakro jackets!
24:07 Thanks and goodbye

To be fair I find it a bit annoying since yours and Misha channels goal is to promote the Apex business to talk that influencers are not changing brand awareness and talk like you are not doing the same with Apex just because is your brand. I can’t wait for the time when the CEO of BMW start running it’s own youtube channel and say we don’t like Influencers.
@Hristofor Georgiev
@FLAT OUT FTW we don’t know behind the scenes info on the SSC Tautara trip to Florida as ti who paid for flights/stay. Nor we know behind the scenes arraignments with Manthey Racing as for example free track alignments or GR Yaris development. Or at least that’s what I’m trying to highlight with my comments. It’s ok to promote your own Business but it’s totally different to promote other brands etc no matter they pay you or not.
I belive there is a difference between promoting your business in your own videos, and exhorting companies to fund your endeavours or the cost of doing business as a influencer.
Tom Stamp cut out my lunch call at the end of the video. And I took that personal.
And what did you have for lunch? Lol
Was that lunch call about biscuits and gravy?
Misha, you better go to bed now, we expect at least 10 laps in the Yaris overtaking GT3 RS’s from you tomorrow evening. :p
Where’s that food shout???
heh heh heh?
Love the transparency you bring to all the YouTube BS.
Make videos dont think about money and marketing….than you Will have good followers that knowing how life works in Realtime
thank you stobsie
I think the idea that magazines were ever giving unbiased reviews has always been BS. Magazines have always been influenced by their advertisers and their reviews have always reflected this relationship, and for that reason I don’t see magazine journalists as any more reliable than social media influencers. For me both formats are strictly entertainment. The minute someone starts pushing ads for sponsored products at me I unsubscribe if I can’t fast forward through their pitch. I watch Misha because he’s funny and his content is excellent. He never trys to sell me on whatever he’s talking about, just brings his enthusiasm for what he loves to his content. It’s the same reason that I’ve watched your content form the beginning Robert. The minute that stops happening I’m outta here 😉
@Robert Mitchell agree, I don’t mind personal biases because you just find someone whose biases match yours in certain areas and you can get value out of their opinions. Even if you disagree with them, hearing the opinion of someone with a consistent set of priorities helps inform you.
Biases produced by financial influence aren’t dependable and don’t convey anything useful to a customer.
agree 100% ?
Though a good journalist separates personal opinion and facts.
I think the og journalists were biased for personal reasons rather than financed reasoned. It’s hard to find truly not biased content
I just like to say that influencers discourage me from buying anything. And I am quite annoyed if any of my hard earned money end up in their pockets.
Same goes for shitty adds.
Honesty wins hands down every time.
It actually doesn’t
Unless you’re living in a fairytale
I am sorry I think there are some ads in this vid 😉
so many good thoughts in there Robert! I Totally agree that the transparency between tv commercial breaks and YouTube is very different. Online personalities have gotten so good at weaving the product into a video and making it seem like they picked that tuner or product because they are the best for that car. But In reality that company was maybe just the highest bidder on a product placement deal. Not the best for the job. I get that Business is business but the community in general has to start being more open about paid/sponsored content if it seems misleading to a person who would actually spend their hard earned money on product or service X.
Agree and agree that movies are sneaky too now.
it does happen to be who gives me the best solution for the lowest price or highest payout. TV made it easy to know when we were getting hit.. movies now though have tons of paid product placement too
Whatever way you look at it at the end of the day it’s just greed. Be cool, make friends, build relationships, don’t be greedy and just enjoy what you have that came from whoever.
Agreed!
well said!..???
Interesting note about JWW’s new partner, would love to know how much they have influenced the channel since they came onboard. It’s clear that they’ve pumped a lot of money into it with the bunker build and they’re providing some pretty spicey cars as well so they probably want to see some money flowing in the other direction. I mean I doubt they came onboard just to help JWW boost his viewing figures.
@Will | SEOFlow | World Class Web Design Not really. I am very well aware that most influencers make themselves look much richer, than their actual wealth would allow it.
@Zoltan you obviously are new to the concept of influencers
@Fraser Wright As for Chris Harris, there’s also no guarantee that his reviews are not influenced by Top Gear&BBC as his employer or by his personal relationships with the people behind the cars (his close relationship with the man in charge of Porsche’s GT series comes to mind).
@V4 Skunk Who earns millions?
@Fraser Wright As long as the viewer knows they are being marketed to, that’s the point here
On April 1st I want Robert to drop a influencer heavy video for april fools Day. Entire video of garish plugs for everything from his socks to his glasses.
@Tom Stamp
That would be a riot!
Robert, I love the way you deliver the information. It’s very transparent and feels like friends talking in bar, not like other youtubers
Another great video, thanks Robert and team! One thought regards Chris Harris’ background… Yes, many people know him from his YouTube channel, however that channel was built on the back of a 20 year, bona fide career in automotive journalism.
He has joked that he was the original automotive influencer 20 years ago when he bought a lamborghini as a young 20-something and tried to run it on a shoestring budget, but I dont personally think its fair to call him an influencer. He has a solid history as an automotive journalist.
Like you I’m not so sure the way Mr JWW was outed was particularly great, but I do understand the frustration Ian Litchfield must have felt. Having connections to the high-end food service industry, I cannot adequately articulate how big a problem influencers have become. As unpleasant as this whole situation has become, I do think its time someone made a stand.
That was really, really good. Very balanced and very informative. I can’t believe you can talk direct to a camera for so long without interruption! You clearly know your stuff
Every time I watch any of your videos or Misha’s, lots of thoughts come on my mind how you guys take time to make your content informative yet simple. The very short answer to all your videos is “THANK YOU”
Are you suggesting Misha and boosted Boris are one in the same person? That’s like outing Batman! How dare you sir!
i liked “the old” jw way more, havent really watched his videos to much lately, even skipped the agera rs video and i love this car. its good production, but it lost its soul. makes a lot of sense now that its a sellout. the old times videos felt less planed and scripted but had way more soul to it.
Absolutely agree. I’ve never been an avid viewer of his channel, but from time to time it was fun to watch a few videos of his.
But now…. I don’t evem find myself klicking on cars I actually like or find interesting because I don’t like the vibe anymore. Over-engineered.
@Talynen Yeah, that’s pretty much it! Once the “business mentor” came around, it stopped being a “fun channel” and became a full blown business channel, catering to the highest bidders…
@Rmaia3d you can pretty much pinpoint the shift around the time he started working with his “business mentor”… Even when he was starting NVN London it wasn’t too bad and mostly transparent, but now he just shills with minimal to no disclosure and everything about the channel is sponsored.
Exactly!! The change is very much noticeable. Production quality did increase exponentially, but it lost that “personal touch”… Looks a lot like he’s just an actor on a larger gig…
@Robert Mitchell old english saying ‘tell it how it is, not how it should be’
17:57 I was one of those people who was afraid that would happen. So happy you guy’s went the route you did, because my fears didn’t become reality. Your and Misha’s channels are currently my favorite channels on Youtube simply because I know I can trust the information I receive in these video’s. Btw, what happened to the Goodyear thing? I would love to hear your opinion on the Eagle F1 Supersport vs PS4s
As long as you can afford to keep going the way things are going now, I will watch, thank you.
I always, always, always enjoy content from Robert: he says evrything as is without a load of BS and offers content that we, his community, can always look forward to. This is my first time commenting on any of his videos though just coz of that door creak ????…have Liqui Moly do something about it ?
Honored to have you in the comments!!!
That was my chair squeezing if I remember I’ll drop a product placement on some LM lube next vid in the studio ???
Love to listen to you when you´re talking business Robert. One of the rare, true guys that doesn´t run after every Euro thrown at him.
As a small business owner myself working in maintenance for big companies I must know what trustworthy means.
Just good to know that you had the chance to make enough money before youtube 😉
Robert, you are either honest man or the best influencer yet. I feel like I’m on. Zoom call when watching, like being with a friend. Keep up the great content, love the summits over a bottle too.
Thanks Stuart!!! Glad to have you on the channel man
